so i figured i should get back to this, at least to document the happenings of today. probably will be a boring post, but bear with me. Our thesis opening was this evening at csb. Mom, Mike, Liz, and Josh all drove down to attend the event; i'm so very glad. I hadn't slept in over 40 hours, not in my bed in over a week but when i finished my work to satisfactory completion an hour before the opening and firewired it to all the emacs, i was elated, and the adrenaline took me easily through the hours of the opening. It flew by. It's over, bizarre. (What do you mean i'm graduating?) The turnout was big, the food excellent (particularly the guac), and I was pleased with all of the interest in the work. Granted, yeah, a bunch of proud parents, but usually I don't see as much emphasis thrown into the work during social events like the opening, and yet there were lines around people's work, around reid's hands, my computers, etc. (see people do like to sit on the floor.) I'd be lying if I were to say I wasn't concerned about the reception of my work. I figured people would see the project, the glowing emacs, and be like 'that's nice' but not spend the time. I should have more faith in people (and perhaps my work). Wine and brie aren't everything, although something (great job party committee).
I just wanted to thank all of the participants in my project--jd, mk, jh, nm, jhw, wp, rb, cc, pg, gh, jr, bc, md, rm, rg, sh, do, ab, mo, au, ep, lc etc etc. This project would have been nothing without you guys, and it's been awesome meeting with you and talking shit out (what an elegant description.) This project was all about you guys and I hope maybe it was of some help to you. I will miss you all dearly in a matter of a month....
let's not talk about that now. Dinner was great, my family is awesome, my friends invaluable, I slept through my own afterparty (thanks maggie and jolly for at least trying to get me up), but it's all not matter. I'm eating m&ms, going to fall asleep to a movie, and get up for the critic coming into the gallery tomorrow.
Oh yeah, for anyone reading this and not in the near vicinity to see the show before the 13th, my project will be available in its entirety online at manderinorange.com/goodriddance. For now, the link goes to my project description and a call for participants. If you feel so inclined, read it, and get back to me if you wish to take part. I'd be happy to help.
Ah, bed. (I can't believe amy thought i was a dummy passed out on the gallery floor)
current music: something great - lcd soundsystem - streamed off of myspace (hard drive too full for acquisition)--so good
good job guys, i'm really proud of us.
PS installation photos galore:
